Here are customer comments about our RM16_EX8 and other external RAID system
How reliable is our RAID system?!
Would you think a RAID volume still intact, when it was doing IO, then you remove half of the RAID hdd (turn-off the power)?

We wanted a RAID enclosure that would meet our expansion and performance requirements.
Previously with Windows file server storage solutions we found ourselves extending logical volume
sets as storage capacity increased, adding an unruly performance and administrative burden.
With the RM16_EX8 from DatOptic we found an extendable storage enclosure that is simple
to configure and administer. The PCIe x8 controller provides the necessary performance for both
the Master and Slave units in their role as storage for a Windows file server. We are happy with this
solution from DatOptic and plan to include their products in future storage projects.

Why would anyone spend $15,000 for a 16TB RAID these days when you could buy one fast one (800 MB/s) RM16_EX8 and one mirror RM15_S2P
for around the same price with a 10GB Ethernet card? The RM16_EX8 from DatOptic have been running RAID 5/6 without any problems in a MacPro Leopard Server.
No Fiber needed when using a 10GB Switch and CX4 cable, which I believe would be faster then a 4GB Fiber connection.
I'd rather have redundancy in a second RAID vs all the redundant controller modules, power supplies, battery backup, etc.... within one single RAID.
