I've always been on the lookout for a very fast, flexible, large-volume storage solution to hold my all of my photographs in the Lightroom catalogue, and drive for backup. After getting my nMP, I decided to give DATOptic Eight bay Thunderbolt 2 short rack a try out - with 60 days money back - why not? - I previously used the Lacie 5big, and while it worked well, it didn't have the capacity I wanted (32TB raw capacity) or the type of RAID array I preferred level 6 just for more protection. The other drive I considered was the Pegasus 2 and Areca eight bay drive, but I settled on DATOptic, cuz I can get on the phone to call them for support, beside the Areca after reading better overall reviews about it on various web boards.
I have been extremely pleased with the device. It was easy to load...I connect it via Ethernet, then just type in its IP address and format it from Safari. The IP setup system is a bit rudimentary and sometimes lags, but if you're a little patient with it, you will have no problems setting things up how you want. And, it's incredibly fast. As a RAID 6 setup with a total of 24TB storage space, it runs at roughly 1050 MB/sec read and write, with eight 4TB Hitachi NAS drives mounted. I've had it for several months now and have yet to encounter a single problem of any kind. Speed, reliability, easy to use, RAID flexibility...this device offers it all.
I would recommend this drive to anyone who needs a fast storage solution. (Posted on 6/9/2016)
